The organization works with people based on need, regardless of race, religion, or nationality, and does not evangelize. Lutheran World Relief provides aid in emergencies and helps families restore their lives. It partners with communities to build and grow rural economies, ultimately breaking the cycle of poverty so families and communities can thrive.

LWF’s goal is to help people build self-sufficiency and create new community-owned approaches to problem-solving that will last long after its projects end.

Lutheran Disaster Response shares God's hope, healing and renewal with people whose lives have been disrupted by disasters in the United States and around the world. When the dust settles and the headlines change, they stay to provide ongoing assistance to those in need. 

In the Lower Susquehanna Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we feed the hungry as we have been fed by Christ. In 2016, our synod became a Reconciling in Christ Synod. We welcome with full participation and inclusion all who are seeking God’s love and grace.
